Tax efficient donations to Donegal MRT
If you plan to donate to DMRT, there are ways in which the tax on the donation can be reclaimed from the taxman. This can happen in one of two ways:
1.If you are a PAYE-only taxpayer, DMRT can reclaim the tax on the sum donated if the total is over €250 in the tax year. If you fill out a very short form we will reclaim the tax paid. This significantly increases the value of your donation to us. The tax system does not allow the taxpayer to reclaim this tax. For further information please see http://www.revenue.ie/leaflets/chy2.doc
2.If any of your tax is paid by the self assessment method, you may reclaim the tax paid on the donated amount by including the DMRT receipt in your annual tax return.
If you plan to donate to DMRT, we would respectfully suggest the following:
PAYE-only taxpayers: If you wish, please complete the CHY2 form and send to us if your donations in one year exceed €250.
Self-assessed: In deciding on the amount of a donation to DMRT, please consider that you will be able to reclaim a significant amount of tax, eg. if you pay the 42% rate of tax, a donation of €1,800 will have a net cost to you of less than €500. Please see our simple calculator to see the significant tax benefits of donating to DMRT.
