OUR NEEDS

2007

On Sunday evening the 9th Dec. we responded to a call-out  in the Poison Glen for a hill walker who had left his companions, after complaining of feeling sick, but had not arrived back at their base. The outcome was successful and we had wonderful co-operation from the local community and the Errigal Hostel. Thank you

Early on Saturday morning of the 1st Dec. we responded to a call-out to find a missing person in the hill area near Glengad on the Inishowen. With assistance from the local community the person was found safely.

November 24th proved a very good day's training for a national emergency. The simulated plane crash at Donegal Airport proved a good workout for all the emergency services.

A very good day (10th November) was had by all here at the Letterkenny Shopping Centre by Tesco.. Again there has been a wonderful response from the community which is greatly appreciated by all the team and we give you a BIG thank you.

The Dublin Marathon saw representatives of the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team taking part. Now thats some training don't you think?

We are off to a good start with this year's collection days. We had good support at Dunnes Store on Saturday 27th October particularly with the presence of John McShane. A new recruit has been added to the team and it is hoped he will be there on Nov 10th at the Letterkenny Shopping Centre.

The new calendar will be launched at Dunnes Store, Forte Shopping Centre, Letterkenny on Saturday 27th October.

Man airlifted from Bluestacks following climbing accident  Oct 14

At 1240 a request was recieved via the duty phone for assistance from John Mc Groary. He reported that he had an elderly gentleman ( a member of a walking party from Yorkshire)  with a known heart condition, had taken a fall and badly gashed his leg. Despite immediate first aid the bleeding would not stop and assistance was required. The team was alerted along with the R118 aircraft which later landed on close to the scene where the winchman got out with some equipment. It then took off again. Once the casualty was secured it landed on again and recovered the surplus equipment before coming into a low hover to winch the casualty in a double stropp configuration. This helped to maintain pressure and elevation on the wound site. R118 completed its lift and departed for Letterkenny GH at approx 1345.

At this point there were still 5 persons on the hill who had been involved in the incident. Brendan and Joe were despatched  to assist with the group and walk with them back to the roadside.

A big thank you to all who attended this incident. Well Done!!
